Indian national shot dead

An Indian national was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen Wednesday while he was on his way home in Tubtubon, Sibulan town, Oriental Negros.

The victim, Kamal Kant, 45, who is married to a Filipina, succumbed to four gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Initial police investigations yesterday disclosed that Kant was on a red 200 XLR motorcycle when he was waylaid by two unidentified men near his home.

The backrider shot Kant at close range, causing his instant death.

The two men casually walked to the highway, the witnesses said.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Silliman Medical Center Foundation Inc. in Dumaguete City by his son Harris Cumar, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Responding police officers headed by PO2 Absalon Concepcion who are conducting investigation on the shooting, said the men were in the store of Gemima Arpon drinking softdrinks minutes before the incident.

But because of their ball caps, witnesses could not clearly see their faces, especially they were covering their mouth with their hands, police said.

Sibulan police intelligence operatives said they are looking into the lending business angle of the Indian national as motive for the killing.*JG
