Dumaguete cops double security for
Christmas, New Year revelries

The Philippine National Police in Dumaguete City will double security measures to protect visitors, shoppers, and churchgoers during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Dumaguete City chief of police, Chief Inspector Manuel Hidalgo, said he has ordered the double security alert, because of the possibility that the Oriental Negros Philippine National Police command would not be able to augment the city's limited force.

Hidalgo said he has assigned specific tasks for the city PNP's different units, particularly the intelligence section, to prevent the occurrence of crimes. Teams will be assigned to places where visitors and shoppers usually gather, he said.

He also said he was pessimistic about getting extra men from other police stations in the province, because they also lack people.

Earlier, SPO3 Felomino Laure said the city police has detailed policemen at the Redemptorist, Cathedral, and Immaculate churches for the daily and nightly masses and the Misa de Gallo which started today.

He added that the PNP is planning to put up assistance centers in major department stores in the city starting Dec. 22 up to January next year.* s
