Globe cellsite construction
draws controversy

The ongoing construction of the Globe cellsite in Doņa Juliana Subdivision in Bacolod City is being questioned by some residents.

Bella Alacapa, a subdivision resident said in a statement sent to the DAILY STAR that there was no discussion or meeting with residents who live near the proposed location.

She claimed that the process for procuring the necessary permit was not followed and the residents were not properly notified by the city engineer.

Alacapa added that no explanation was given about the possible dangers, health and safety hazards for residents who live near the cellsite. She pointed out the supposed hazards of long-time exposure to radio frequency radiation emitted by cellsites.

Globe, through its public relations consultant, Jonji Gonzales, said yesterday that they cannot make any comment yet. We're still trying to get information on the situation there, Gonzales said in a text message to the DAILY STAR.

Alacapa said the cellsite is situated in the property of Rommel Sanson, barangay captain of Taculing.

Sanson could not be reached for comment as of press time.*NLG
