Man faces multiple raps
for possessing 'sumpak'
A Bacolod resident was apprehended for alleged
possession of a 12-gauge improvised firearm, locally known as "sumpak"
and drug paraphernalia in Purok Punay, Brgy. 16, Bacolod City, at
about 12:10 a.m. yesterday.
Arlan Ada Alintano, 30, was apprehended by Police
Precinct 1 for allegedly poking the firearm at his neighbors, Lazaru
and Arlene Caceres, and for creating alarm and scandal in the area,
police reports said.
Caceres said Alintano, who was allegedly under
the influence of intoxicating liquor, attempted to shoot them, but
the gun did not fire, police reports said.
Fortunately, Franklin Caceres managed to disarm
Alintano and endorse him to the police station. In a body search,
PO2 Alexander Alegora and PO1 Bernardo Beneras recovered an improvised
tooter with suspected shabu residue from Caceres' possession, police
reports said.
Charges for alarm and scandal, violation of Presidential
Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294, or illegal possession
of firearm and ammunition, attempted homicide and violation of Republic
Act 9165, or illegal possession of drug paraphernalia are being
readied against Alintano, who is now detained in the lock-up cell
of Police Precinct 1, police reports also said.*DMG

Swindler
victimizes
lechon vendor
Beware of swindlers, especially these days.
A roasted pig or "lechon" vendor in Bacolod City
lost her P2,000 in cash and Nokia 3510 cellphone to an unidentified
man who pretended to do business with her at Purok Lechonan, Brgy.
26, Bacolod City at about 8:30 a.m. yesterday.
Complainant Mercy Acebuche Toledo, 46, reported
to Police Precinct 1 that a man approached her and told her that
his "boss" wanted to order five lechons from her, to be served for
the Land Transportation Office employees' "Christmas Party" in the
afternoon, police reports said.
Toledo said the man, aged about 30, brown in complexion
and with a mole in his left cheek, invited her to go with him to
the LTO office to verify the transaction.
While they were on a jeepney, the swindler asked
her for P2,000 in cash as his commission for the transaction and
borrowed her cellphone to contact his companion, Toledo told the
police.
She said the "swindler" told her to wait outside
the LTO office as he will get additional orders of lechon from his
"boss".
After few minutes of waiting, and the swindler
had not return, Toledo said she asked the LTO employees about the
"Christmas party" and, to her surprise, no party was set on that
day and the swindler had fled, police reports said.
Meanwhile, Indian national Tajpur Jagtar Singh,
34, married, of Homesite, Brgy. Villamonte in Bacolod City reported
to Police Precinct 6 that an unidentified person poked an unidentified
bladed weapon at him and declared a hold-up at Lizares Street in
the city at about 11:45 a.m. yesterday.
Singh said the hold-upper took his P5,000 in collection
money and used his red Aura Kawasaki with Plate Number 4567 as a
get-away vehicle, police reports said.*DMG

Detained
'barker' faints
A "jeepney barker" arrested on a threat complaint
was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital
after he fainted, allegedly due to starvation in the detention cell
of Police Precinct 1 at about 6 p.m. Monday.
Precinct 1 detainees informed PO1 Bernardo Beneras,
police jailer on-duty that Randy Cordova Magbanua, 33, married,
of Ciocon Road, Bacolod City fell on the ground unconscious for
no apparent reason, police reports said.
Magbanua works as a "jeepney barker" a person
who invites passengers to ride on jeepneys and asks for money in
return at downtown Bacolod.
He was brought to the hospital by Patrol 117 Rescue
Team led by Fire Officer 1 Jane Hisona and PO1 Alexander Alegora,
police reports said.
Magbanua said he fainted because he skipped his
breakfast and lunch the day he was arrested by the police. He was
detained after a complainant reported him for threat, which he vehemently
denied.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old complainant yesterday
reported to Police Precinct 1 that three persons identified only
as "Batok", "Ting-ting" and "Nonoy Glen" stabbed him without reason
at Araneta Street in Bacolod, recently.
The minor, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY
STAR, is temporarily residing at Margarita Street, Brgy. 40 in the
city. He told the police he was about to board a jeepney in the
area when the three stabbed him with "ice picks", police reports
