Beware of swindlers, especially these days.

A roasted pig or "lechon" vendor in Bacolod City lost her P2,000 in cash and Nokia 3510 cellphone to an unidentified man who pretended to do business with her at Purok Lechonan, Brgy. 26, Bacolod City at about 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Complainant Mercy Acebuche Toledo, 46, reported to Police Precinct 1 that a man approached her and told her that his "boss" wanted to order five lechons from her, to be served for the Land Transportation Office employees' "Christmas Party" in the afternoon, police reports said.

Toledo said the man, aged about 30, brown in complexion and with a mole in his left cheek, invited her to go with him to the LTO office to verify the transaction.

While they were on a jeepney, the swindler asked her for P2,000 in cash as his commission for the transaction and borrowed her cellphone to contact his companion, Toledo told the police.

She said the "swindler" told her to wait outside the LTO office as he will get additional orders of lechon from his "boss".

After few minutes of waiting, and the swindler had not return, Toledo said she asked the LTO employees about the "Christmas party" and, to her surprise, no party was set on that day and the swindler had fled, police reports said.
