Red squad prevails in
Chamber sportsfes

Mike Samoranos shone in the clutch to give the Red Team a dramatic 65-63 victory over the White Team Thursday at the start of the Bacolod Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade 2005 Mini Olympics at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Mike Samoranos of the Red Team sank one of his two free throws to give his squad a 63-60 lead with 20 ticks remaining in the game, but Ronald Despi countered with a three-point conversion in the ensuing play to level the match at 63.

With five seconds left, Samoranos issued a pinpoint pass to a wide-open Paw Paw Maapni in the shaded lane for an easy lay-up that pegged the score at 65-63 as time expired.

In the first game, the Blue Team walloped the Green Team, 72-53, to register the first win in the two-week tournament.

James Chua of Chamber said the sportsfest aims to promote camaraderie and mutual trust among the members of the brigade.

The fire volunteers will also see action in tug-of-war, horse relay, a racing event, he added. *CIT
