The Bureau of Customs in Dumaguete City has doubled its target
collection this year from P9-million to P17.919-million as of last
month.
A report from the bureau showed that in 2001, duties and taxes
collected was only P4.4 million; and rose to P5.9 million the following
year. In 2003, the BOC saw a decline in the collection due to the
economic crisis.
Last year, it increased its collection to P8.37 million and
made a drastic leap to P17,919,909.39 as of November 15, 2005.
Customs collector Medolita Cabanag attributed the high collection
achievement to the palm oil shipment of Dumaguete Coconut Mills
Inc. through its chairman Julio Sy.
She said that for two shipments of palm oil, the bureau collected
from Ducomi more than P12 million in duties and taxes.
Dyno Nobel Philippines through Arthur Ylagan has also contributed
in the collection efficiency of the bureau, Cabanag said.
For this achievement, the BOC in Dumaguete will award the
"top exporter award" to DUCOMI and its officials in a simple ceremony
Wednesday.
To receive special awards are Julio Sy, Susano Sy, Reynald
Uy, Engr.
Romualdo Domingo and Rolando Zabala all of DOCUMI; Engr. Arthur
Ylagan of Dyno Nobel Phils.; Mayor Agustin Perdices and Gov. George
Arnaiz.*JG
