The Department of Trade and Industry - Negros Occidental has reminded
the public to purchase Christmas lights only marked with Philippine
Standard and Import Commodity Clearance to ensure that they get
quality products.
In its advisory, the Trade and Industry Regulation Division,
headed by Max Ravena, said that the DTI-Negros Occidental regularly
monitors the market to protect consumers from buying substandard
Christmas lights and other similar products.
It also is coordinating with business establishments to remind
them to procure only from manufacturers and importers that have
been issued PS License and ICC and to sell only PS and ICC-marked
Christmas lights.
Christmas lights are DTI-regulated products and under the
Product Certification Scheme of the Bureau of Product Standards,
a product covered by the mandatory certification of DTI-BPS, is
subject to a series of tests in accordance to a relevant Philippine
National Standard or a foreign standard at the BPS Testing Center
or any BPS-recognized laboratory, prior to distribution or selling
in the market.
The DTI-BPS has awarded the PS License to three manufacturers:
Frankwell Trading Manufacturing Phils. (brand name: Iluminada);
Ful Maw General Enterprises Inc. (brand name: Super Bright); and
Wexford International Sales (brand name: Diamond Bright).
It has also issued the ICC to 14 importers, including Sheratone
Industries Inc., Golden Hit Corp., City Supermarket Inc., 88 Mart
Duty Free Inc., Myrant Importation Inc., Pearl River Enterprises,
P.K.S.S. Enterprises Inc., PSMT Philippines Inc., Durex International
Marketing Inc., Global Point Enterprises, Yolimall General Merchandise,
Great Home Makers Enterprises, Shining East Marketing Corp., and
Wexford International Sales.
The DTI-BPS has certified that the Christmas lights sold by these
manufacturers are reliable and safe.*NLG
