Man tries to kill son

A Batangeņo attempted to kill his 4-year-old son by hacking him with a 14-inch-long cane cutter at about 3 a.m. yesterday at the Social Development Center in Bacolod City.

Vincent Boy Caibigan, of Mabini, Batangas was rushed with hack wounds to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where his father, Leovino Caibigan, 34, was treated for a neck injury believed caused by an attempt to commit suicide early morning yesterday.

Leovino and his son were temporarily housed at the SDC, a shelter being run by the local government unit of Bacolod City, after the father, who is believed to be suffering from a nervous breakdown, became violent at the Negros Navigation Ferry set to sail for Manila Sunday.

Leovino, who is now detained at the Bacolod Precinct 8 for a frustrated parricide complaint, said that while Vincent was sleeping, he saw a cane cutter in the room and used it to hack the boy. He refused to say anything more.

Vincent sustained two hack wounds in the left side of his neck, and a cut in his right elbow, officer-on-case PO1 Jennifer Bautista of Bacolod Police Women and Children's Concerned Desk, said.

Leovino, on the other hand, was treated for minor injuries in the left side of his neck when he hacked himself after injuring his son.

He said he wanted to die and that he wanted his son to join him in death, as he has no future. Leovino was crying and kept his eyes closed all throughout the interview.

He narrated that he and Vincent went to Bacolod on Nov. 1 from Janiuay Iloilo City, where his wife, Lina Callar resides. He said his 2-year-old son was left in her custody. He left Iloilo because he was allegedly traumatized by an incident when the families of his wife threatened to maul and kill him, Leovino added.

The incident made him anxious about his surroundings, and caused him to become violent Sunday in the ferryboat. He said they are set to return to Mabini, Batangas.

He said he does not expect to return to his province, as he is hopeless. Bautista of BCPO WCCD, said the wife of Leovino is not interested in filing charges against him. The police are still waiting for the boy's kin to decide whether to pursue the filing of frustrated parricide case against him or not.*JJD

The alleged serial rapist detained at Police Precinct 4 is not only facing multiple counts of rape but also carnapping charges that may soon be filed against him.

Rany Prayes who was nabbed on Thursday by a joint team of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the Bacolod City Police Office at the bus terminal of Ceres Liner in Bacolod City, was charged yesterday in court for the rape of four minors.

Carnapping charges are also being readied against Prayes, a native of Cebu City, who is temporarily residing in Brgy. Cansilayan, Murcia, with the recovery of three stolen motorcycles yesterday from his friends.

Police reports said the three Honda Dream motorcycles were left by Prayes with his friends in Bacolod City.

Police investigations showed that Prayes had raped four minors with ages ranging from 16 to 17, from Oct. 13 to 26.

One of the victims of Prayes was molested eight times, reports said.

Three of the four victims could not contain their anger at Prayes whom they took their turns in hitting at the office of Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras in Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.*GPB
