Blackout hits north,
two missing at sea

Strong winds caused brownouts in some parts of Bacolod City and a blackout in the entire northern Negros for most of the day yesterday, while two fishermen in Sipalay City remained missing at sea.

Heavy rains and wind in Negros Occidental were triggered by the southwest monsoon with Tropical Storm Chedeng east of Dagupan City.

In Bacolod City, a concrete wall of a demolished building at Galo-San Juan streets, fell when a tree toppled by strong wind hit it.

Manila honors STAR

The Rotary Club of Manila will confer upon the Visayan DAILY STAR a special citation for "Outstanding Work and service to the Community" during its Awards Night at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel in Metro Manila.

Senator Joker Arroyo will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker in the awarding program, which will be highlighted by the Journalism Hall of Fame citation that received 12 nominations from among the ranks of the country's most respected working journalists, news analysts and opinion makers.

I'll appeal
disbarment, lawyer says

A Bacolod lawyer, who has been disbarred by the Supreme Court, yesterday said he will appeal the ruling because he is not guilty of the charges hurled against him by his client.

Joel Grijaldo said he is filing a motion for reconsideration to the SC ruling based on a complaint of his client Gloria Ong, because he was not able to explain his side.

He said he had represented Ong in the recovery of P180,000 owed her. She had agreed that my fee would be 25 percent of the amount collected, Grijaldo said.
