Massacre suspect nabbed
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

BAGO CITY - One of the five principal suspects in the alleged massacre of a couple and their relative in Buenavista town, Guimaras, on May 31, gave himself up to SPO3 Richard Jamili, of this city's police station, yesterday.

The suspect identified as Orlyn Galanza has a pending arrest warrant for robbery-in-band with multiple homicide, issued by Judge Domingo Diamante of the Jordan Municipal Trial Court in Guimaras.

Galanza and his four companions were subjects of a regionwide manhunt by the Guimaras Police Provincial Office for the alleged massacre of Luis Yuday, 57, his wife, Anna, 60, and Edgar Glorial in Brgy. Supag, Buenavista.

Inspector Alberto Pabilona, deputy police chief of Bago City, said last night that a team of policemen from Guimaras led by Inspector Carlito Floro had been dispatched to Bago City to arrest Galanza.

However, Galanza was able to elude Floro and his companions on Wednesday night in Brgy. Taloc, Bago City, Pabilona said.

Galanza, accompanied by Jamili, yesterday surprised the team of Floro by appearing and giving himself up to the Bago City Police Station.

Police investigations said the three victims of the alleged massacre in Guimaras, sustained multiple hack wounds from the suspects who were reportedly armed with bolos.

Yuday sustained six hack wounds, while his wife had a wound on her face. Glorial, Anna's brother, sustained about 50 hack wounds all over his body.

Buenavista police investigators said the suspects may have been known to the victims.

The lifeless body of Yuday was found near the back door of their residence, while his wife, must have been watching television when she was hacked by one of the five suspects, police reports said.

Police investigators are looking into three angles that could have triggered the gruesome incident - robbery, an old grudge, and a land dispute.

The house of the Yuday couple was in disarray and had apparently been ransacked when Buenavista policemen arrived to investigate the incident.

The multiple hack wounds in the body of Glorial also indicate that the suspects may have been very angry with him, the police said.

Galanza was immediately brought by to Guimaras yesterday by the group of Floro, to face the charges that was filed against him.*GPB
