The one-day Christian Faculty Fellowship-Philippines
will be held at Silliman University today with about 70 participants
from 23 universities and colleges in the country.
The gathering is an offshoot of the first continent-wide
ACFF which was held in Chiangmai, Thailand late last year sponsored
by the Hong Kong-based Asian Christian Higher Education Institute.
Dr. Betsy Joy Tan, director of the Silliman Office
of Instruction and fellowship covenor, said an international panel
of speakers will talk on various topics focused on the theme: Education
of the Heart: The Heart of Higher Education in Asia".
The speakers include Dr. David Kwang-sun Suh, ACHEI
executive director; Dr. Betty Abregana, ACHEI associate director;
Dr. Willi Toisuta of Indonesia, chairman of the Asianization Task
Force of the United Board of Christian Higher Education in Asia
and Shanti Manuel of India, chair of the ACHEI Institute Advisory
Committee.
Tan said the fellowship aims to, among others, renew
and affirm Christian commitment to teaching in universities and
colleges in the Philippines and the rest of Asia, create solidarity
among Christians in academic communities and their networks and
enhance rich Asian intellectual traditions
. The participants will be welcomed by SU President
Dr. Agustin Pulido in the opening ceremonies facilitated by Prof.
Jocelyn de la Cruz, director of the SU alumni office.
Dean Myles Bejar of the SU College of Law will discuss
the rationale of the activity and will facilitate plenary sessions
along with Arts and Sciences Dean Carlos Magtolis.
