AT SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY
Christian faculty fellowship today

The one-day Christian Faculty Fellowship-Philippines will be held at Silliman University today with about 70 participants from 23 universities and colleges in the country.

The gathering is an offshoot of the first continent-wide ACFF which was held in Chiangmai, Thailand late last year sponsored by the Hong Kong-based Asian Christian Higher Education Institute.

Dr. Betsy Joy Tan, director of the Silliman Office of Instruction and fellowship covenor, said an international panel of speakers will talk on various topics focused on the theme: Education of the Heart: The Heart of Higher Education in Asia".

The speakers include Dr. David Kwang-sun Suh, ACHEI executive director; Dr. Betty Abregana, ACHEI associate director; Dr. Willi Toisuta of Indonesia, chairman of the Asianization Task Force of the United Board of Christian Higher Education in Asia and Shanti Manuel of India, chair of the ACHEI Institute Advisory Committee.

Tan said the fellowship aims to, among others, renew and affirm Christian commitment to teaching in universities and colleges in the Philippines and the rest of Asia, create solidarity among Christians in academic communities and their networks and enhance rich Asian intellectual traditions

. The participants will be welcomed by SU President Dr. Agustin Pulido in the opening ceremonies facilitated by Prof. Jocelyn de la Cruz, director of the SU alumni office.

Dean Myles Bejar of the SU College of Law will discuss the rationale of the activity and will facilitate plenary sessions along with Arts and Sciences Dean Carlos Magtolis.
